5 of the Best Free Stock Photography Sites

Free stock photography

Stock photography sites are a great resource for finding images and assets for use in a variety of projects. I find stock photos helpful for filling blog posts, improving websites, and creating better graphic designs. Since I like to take advantage of stock photos without paying a hefty fee, I’ve researched a variety of free sites. Here are five of the best sites for free stock photos that I’ve found.

Life of Pix

Life of Pix only features free high-resolution photos. You can search the library by keyword or simply browse through photos by category. You can also filter the images by colors and orientations. One nice perk of Life of Pix is that in addition to photographs, it also offers free videos.

Pexels offers stock photos that are free for commercial reuse. The site currently has a library of over 30,000 stock photos, and 3,000 new photos are added each month. Pexels allows users to easily browse through the most popular photos, profiles of the most popular photographers, and results for the most popular search terms.

New Old Stock

New Old Stock is a free stock photo site that offers vintage photos that are free for reuse. The photos on New Old Stock come from public archives, and they are all free of any known copyright restrictions. This is a great site to use if you’re working on a project with a vintage aesthetic or if you want to find photos of famous figures, sights and events.

The 22-year-old Victor Hanacek is the mastermind behind Picjumbo, which contains free stock photos taken by himself. After being rejected from other stock photo sites, he decided to create his own, releasing one free photo a day. His site grew, and more and more people downloaded his stuff, allowing him to offer even more for free. Today, Picjumbo offers more than 1,500 high-quality free images covering a range of categories and subjects.

If you run an e-commerce store, you can take advantage of Burst, a resource for free stock photos created by Shopify. The goal of the site is to help e-tailers make better websites, and the site also offers resources to help entrepreneurs come up with new business ideas, including photos that can serve as inspiration for those ideas.
